It's time to slow down

A few weeks ago, one of the seniors at work ranted about having way too many things on his plate. He said that he's overworked and sometimes he'd ask himself if it's still worth staying. I think it's a trick conversation ( or not ) ... blame it on my trust issues. With the ever-becoming worse office politics and the not-so-silent factions at work, if I say something, it may eventually be used against me especially if it hints that I am not picking sides. I took the safe side and just smiled at him. Oddly, he asked me if I'm stressed.

I answered his question with a question. I asked him, "What do you think, Sir?"
His answer surprised me. He said that I look like I'm not stressed.

Well, he's wrong. If you appear to not be stressed, does it follow that you're also handling it well? These are 2 different things, right? And, it's funny + ironic how one of my girlfriends had the courage to tell me that she thinks I'm stressed ( thank you for that ). I acknowledge that one and really, I'm glad that she told it to my face. The doctor who checked me during our company's annual physical examination sounded like he had the same thoughts as my friend's. Moreover, the results of the APE hint of it as well. And now, I just want to do something about it because it's starting to feel as if stress is negatively affecting whatever is left of my thyroid. [ Read more: How stress affects thyroid problems ]

What's keeping me motivated right now are the short-term and long-term goals that I've set as well as the bigger opportunities that I know will come. I remember a local celeb say in one of her interviews that there are no failures in life, just delayed successes — this reminded me that my future is bright.Ü Sprinkling more fairy dusts my way were the words of a former colleague, KC. Just when I was feeling consumed and ashy, I am reminded of happier days and I do look forward to them. So, if you're feeling a little blah & uninspired lately, you may just find that push that you need from this:
"The dreams you had before might not be the same dreams you have now. The things that you want to achieve last year might not be the same things you want to aim this year. The rejections that you've gone through before will be replaced with bigger opportunities knocking at your door today. So change your mentality and just hope for the best. Life sucks sometimes but it's still beautiful. PS. Patience is still a virtue."

Are you good at handling stress? What do you do when life tries to get the best of you?
Hope you're having a fab week.  ☮..Peace + ❥_Love + Good Vibes. RUSS.

I also felt stressed just last week at work because of evaluation results and the like, but I guess being positive and a bit of inspiration will make you do the right thing other than think of the negativity felt at work.

I used to not be able to handle stress well until recently, my husband taught me that being all upset about something which you can't control, is no use at all... so I'm learning to loosen up a little and enjoy the small moments and be contented :)

I believe stress is a natural part of life that we need to separate ourselves from. We need decompression. Life doesn't have to suck. Stress sucks, find ways to enjoy life .

What a perfect post this is for me today! I do need to slow down, but honestly, sometimes, I simply don't know how to do!

Why did he say you're not stressed? I hate office politics but it will always be there. Whenever I am stressed, I just sleep. I go out and watch movies in Cinema. Patience because life doesn't always suck.

Ah stress, it's something I really need to shake off. Been at it for weeks now, I need a break.

Do not mind my blog URL. It is an aspiration. For your co-worker to think that you are not stressed, you must be handling it well. I hope you are. I hope you have people who keep you smiling and motivated.

I love the quote " there is no failure in life, just delayed success" ... ARen't we all hoping for a perfect life.. but it could be better that way that we are being sharpened by our struggles and challenges in life.. just don't forget to breath from time to time....

When I worked full time as a bookkeeper whether as an employee or on my own I was forever feeling stressed. Deadlines, deadlines and more deadlines. Now that I am semi retired I feel stress less. If course dealing with my Mom and that fall she took stressed me out big time-but now she is on the mend and I'm starting to feel more like my positive self again! And this too shall pass--is my motto when things get out of control!

I'd like to think I am. My course in college requires us to do tons of stuff at the same time that it's sometimes really overwhelming. I find that it helps to take a lot of breaks to breathe and to eat comfort food! Haha! :D

stress is something i hate feeling and am not sure how to really control it when it happens. work stresses me out a lot but I'm still learning to be less stressed

Some people can really manage or hide their stress very well. I think everyone who is serious about their work will have a level of stress they need to manage. We just need to find our own ways to destress ourselves.

At this point in my life, if I don't have a high level of stress, I actually wonder what's wrong. LOL. I'd love to slow down, but every time I decide to, something comes up.

I feel like I need to slow down a bit, but right now I have no room to so I really just need to keep trucking along. My stress level is now pretty low but at times it gets super high and I need to step away!

Thanks for sharing and for the reminder that it's time to slow down. I stress myself out when I know I have a lot to accomplish. When I get stressed, I try to listen to music and light some candles.

I think it's great you don't look like you are stressed, even if you are. I don't wear stress well so it affects everyone. Life is too short, so I try to make sure the stress in my life is as limited as can be. - Jeanine

I am a worrywart so it probably shows in my face that I am stressed most of the times since I can't hide any feelings. I had a thyroid issue before but got through it, hope you do too.

I don't think I have been handling stress very well lately. People say I am grumpy and well, for some odd reason I am. Not sure why. But I think I may get a visit from Aunt Flow in the next couple of days. Ugh!

I'd like to think that I'm good at handling stress as people don't notice when I'm stressed. I love the inspiring quote!

Take a leave of absence for the meantime. I am stressed at work too and now I'm on 2 days leave. And yes, that APE, I missed it last week, coz I got a cough so I decided to medicate first before undergoing the full APE maybe next week.

"There are no failures in life, only delayed successes." I love that quote. We must never give up despite all these obstacles. I just stop and sit back to allow me to see things at a wider perspective.

well said Russ. Focus on the long run, on where you are headed because the game of life is a loooong one and only you should get too decide what you want to make of it! :)

Stress has always ran amok amongst my family members, and I'm no exception. I find that praying and going for a walk helps me reduce stress.

Seems everybody know if I am stressed. Why, taking a sound sleep is my way of ridding it.

To me this is the best reminder for the week. Yes! perhaps this is the time to slow down and take things easily. I will schedule my tasks based on priorities and need to say no to some. Thanks

Franc said...

Slow down if you must. I think it's best to just manage stress and part of managing it is taking a break and also not worrying about trivial stuff.

Pooja Kawatra said...

Beautiful post and thanks for reminding us again. Life is too short to be stressed over the things just wait for a minute and enjoy the things around. You will see a different world.

I like the part that there are no failures in life, only delayed successes. It really gives us hope and keep us moving forward.

Elizabeth O. said...

Ditto with Franc. Those words will keep us hopeful. I usually take a break whenever I feel that I am too stressed.

This is a great post and especially at this time in my life. There are truly things that can wait. It is so important to take care of your self and sometimes we just have to put things on hold. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately stress seems to be my middle name. Everyday I encounter it and there's no way around it. I have a lot on my plate at this time. Hoping someday that I will be able to relax for once.

I always feel tense and stressed. Part of my stress stems from not being able to work a normal job and get steady income.

I can't believe the things kids are expected to do these days! I decided not to put my three year old in soccer this year. I decided that I wasn't ready for that busy ness yet.

mail4rosey said...

I agree with the comment above that everyone always seems so stressed. Why is that/??

Your positive attitude will soon be rewarded! Stress is a waste of time.

Very interesting post - I don't think I handle stress well - except if I can exercise more and not drink any alcohol, I notice I am more relaxed along with short 15 meditations during the day - and keep reminding myself to unwind during my very busy schedule :)

I try my best to manage my stress and not let it show but there are some days where I've just had enough. Those are the days we're I make myself take a short break and treat myself.

I feel him, sometimes, if you are not happy with your job, you tend to think that you are overworked and stress. But, it will always depend on your self-motivation. If he is not happy anymore and tired with his job, it is the best time to quit and move on.

Been stressing out at work too. My dilemma is that I have a really high pay BUT my working time exceeds the normal 9 hours :|

I recently learned that I am severely hyperthyroid. I have had thyroid storm and it was terrible. I thought I was having panic attacks but it was really my heart being under too much pressure.

There are days where my mind and body tell me that I have had enough and I am at my limit. Those are the days that I forget the chores and just relax. It's important to stay as stress free as possible.

I'm having the same thoughts. I don't know what DEpEd thought and they bombarded teachers with SO MANY PAPERWORKS right now. I'm too stressed that all of the teachers were sick. I was also absent last week because of high fever.

I agree. It's all about keeping your eye on your goal and taking short breaks from time to time. I'm stressed to but I try to enjoy everything I do.

Great words in this article...We need to separate ourselves from stress because it can harm us. Unfortunately in these days stress is a reality in our day bu day life...we just need to learn how to deal with it.

I like to think that I am good at handling stress. I tend to internalize things though and I am sure that is a bad thing.

When I'm stressed, I eat! LOL! But since that's not the healthiest way to keep stress at bay, whenever I'm super stressed, I take a short walk when the weather is good. On the weekend, I try to do the things I enjoy doing whether it means staying home or having adventures in the city. And when I feel uninspired at work, I also set goals for myself to motivate me to keep pushing, keep working hard.

Stress is healthy if it's a result of us trying to inch closer to our goal (I mean personal goals that we are passionate about). It's not healthy if we're stressed chasing someone elses' goals or dream.

Work-life balance becomes a need when what we are doing is not aligned with our passion and call, Because you'll constantly feel the need to have time for yourself - Sonnie
